Sea Turtles, Surf & City Lights
Our trip to Sri Lanka was the kind that stays with you — not just for the views (which were stunning), but for the moments that surprised us, challenged us, and made us fall in love with the island’s wild, warm soul.
We spent most of our time soaking up the sun in the southern coast, exploring Galle and Tangalle — two coastal towns that offered beauty in totally different ways.
Swimming with Sea Turtles & Our First Snorkel
Just outside of Galle, we had a moment that felt like something out of a dream — we went swimming with large Green Sea Turtles, and they were such gentle souls. Calm, graceful, and completely unbothered by our presence, they glided beside us like we were old friends. It was one of those quiet, magical experiences we’ll never forget.
The area is known for its great surfing beaches and snorkelling sites, and while we’re not pros by any means, we decided to give snorkelling a go. It was our first time, and yes — it was just as scary as it looked. But being the adventurers we are, we went for it… and were rewarded. Floating face-down in the blue, we spotted black and white striped fish darting around coral, and suddenly the nerves turned into pure wonder. Totally worth it.
The Food & the Unexpected Moments
Between swims and slow walks along the shore, we ate some of the best fish dishes of our lives — fresh, spiced to perfection, and served with warm smiles and ocean views. Every meal felt like a celebration of the sea.
The wildlife in Sri Lanka took us by surprise in the best way. We saw fireflies lighting up the night, a giant squirrel racing through the trees, and a water monitor sunbathing by the shore like it owned the place. But the true highlight — and something we’ll never forget — was the chance to help baby leatherback turtles make their way to the ocean.
It was completely unexpected — we just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Holding those tiny, wriggly hatchlings in our hands and watching them take their first steps into the sea… it was pure magic. We loved every moment of it.
Colombo – A City of Contrasts
We ended our journey in Colombo, and let’s just say — the city surprised us. It was beautiful in a way we didn’t expect — full of contrasts. Sleek malls next to colonial buildings, street food stalls next to gourmet restaurants. And speaking of food — mwah. Every bite was flavour-packed, from traditional rice and curry to international fusion. Colombo was the perfect final note — energetic, stylish, and full of life.
